Main Page | Services at Spunge.org | Why the Name?

Spunge.org offers the net community net services. These services are about any net service that people want and need. They can range from (but are not limited to) a UNIX shell account, email, mailing lists, and web page space. For a more complete listing and description, you will want to look here.

Spunge.org is made up of 8 computers.

1) chi.spunge.org - This is be a Pentium 200MMX with a little over 4 gig drive space, and 64 meg of memory. It handles most things here. It is sometimes refered to as shell.spunge.org, ftp.spunge.org, news.spunge.org, mail.spunge.org, and www.spunge.org.
UPDATE 9-3-99: Has 13 gig of drive space

2) lawrence.spunge.org - This is a 486 DX/66 with about 650 meg of drive, and 32 meg memory. It is used for background processes, as well as an entertainment (like for a MUD and IRC server). It is usually known as games.spunge.org.
UPDATE ???: Has 1.8 Gig of space

3) conti.spunge.org - This is a Pentium 100 with 850 meg of drive, and 64 meg of memory. It is used as the mail list server. It also can be known as lists.spunge.org
UPDATE 9-3-99: Has 9 gig of drive space

4) gate.spunge.org - This is a 486 SX/25 with 360 meg of disk, and 8 meg of memory. It keeps things connected to the net.
UPDATE 9-3-99: It is now a Pentium 100, with 40 meg of memory.

5) western.spunge.org - This is a 486 DX/66 with 800 meg HD, and 24 meg memory.

6) bell.spunge.org - This is a 486 SX/33 with 600 meg HD and 12 meg memory.

7) sr115.spunge.org - This is a 486 SX/25 with 10 Gig of space, and 8 meg of memory.

8) window.spunge.org - This is a use to be a Pentium 233MMX with 3.2 gig of drive, and 64 meg of memory. It is my machine, but the CPU fan stopped, and the CPU overheated and was damaged. I replaced the CPU with a AMD K6-2 300 (May 1999)

Spunge.org is connected to the net via a 56K (56KFlex based) V.90 modem. This might sound wonderful, but it really is only 56K download, and 33.6 upload (from my perspective).

So why don't I get a afster connection? Money is the main reason, however time is another. The financial backing of spunge.org comes out of my back pocket (I won't go into why now). That pocket is pretty shallow really. Yes, I can gat DSL for semi cheap, but the time it would take on my end to set up (having to reconfigure it all into a NAT arrangement, unless I really wanted to pay big) isn't worth it to me. Someday I may get something faster.

Spunge.org offers net servies to the net community. These net services are in about every form people need, except for high bandwidth things. Spunge.org accepts no gifts or money for these services. It is just assumed you are responsible, and won't abuse the services, or make trouble with other users.
