The Anglers Action Group (Sydney Northside) Inc. is a group of recreational anglers based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches, with membership throughout NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

AAG tries to serve two functions. One is to stand up for the rights of recreational anglers where we see these are being impinged upon by various groups such as State, Federal and local government, governmental departments or various green-based ideologies. Secondly and perhaps more importantly, is to keep the angler informed of decisions that have been made and to encourage members to form their own opinions and make submissions in their own right. We encourage input from concerned groups or individuals regarding their local or State recreational fishery. In fact, AAG’s motto is “keeping the angler informed”.

As such we are not a fishing club. We do not hold fishing competitions, nor are we trying to compete against fishing clubs. We are a non-political and independent lobby group. AAG committee members volunteer their services and expertise. We have no allegiance or ties with any political party and are funded entirely from members fees and donations.

Since its inception, AAG has had a newsletter called the AAG Rag, now called the Anglers' Action. This is the main vehicle for dissemination of information. The Anglers' Action is now distributed via email to various people and organisations, including State and Federal parliamentarians, mainline media, fishing related media, local councils, Fisheries staff, media people, fishing related groups and clubs, charter operators and fishing tackle distributors and shops throughout Australia.

One of our goals is to build a network of concerned anglers along NSW with contacts with other clubs, organizations and anglers. We have ties with other AAG's such as the Richmond Valley Anglers Action Group and the Anglers Action Group at Coff’s Harbour when the SIMP was being discussed. An earlier president established ties with bodies in Jervis Bay. This is an on-going process and hopefully made easier with the email version of the AAG Rag, now called the Anglers' Action, email discussion lists and a web presence. Although we have cut ties with the Recreational Fishing Alliance of NSW we still maintain a close association with its members.

We have two types of memberships. The first is free, and you get placed on our email list to receive our newsletter and other information we may distribute via email. The second is to become a financial member. At an annual cost of $10 you get significantly more information via email, notified of issues as they are happening and can partake in the decision making process. We welcome any new members, their contributions to discussions or the newsletter, or to raise issues with the Committee.

If you would like to be sent a copy of the latest edition of our newsletter, the Anglers Action, send an email to: aag@spunge.org requesting a copy.
