Use standard altavista query syntax, but insert a % before any word you want to look up synonyms for.

This metasearch tries to get synonyms from Lexical FreeNet, (which is very cool, but only useful really for english) and submit the results as a parenthised and or-ed query to altavista. Is this useful?
  • as of 1/23/02, the script has been updated to work w/ lexfn's new cgi location.
  • as of 3/26/02, the script has been updated to work w/ google & hotbot, and the language option has been removed (coz the synonyms are only in english anyway.)
take note, Google only takes ten at most search terms.

the url used to get the synonyms is
    http://www.lexfn.com/l/lexfn-cuff.cgi?sWord=word&tWord=&query=show&maxReach=2&Asyn=on&Abak=on
where word is replaced with each %-ed word. it only queries for synonyms and "also-known-as" (for people), which are the ASYN and ABAK in the query string.

lexical FreeNet has 250678 synonyms in it's database, and 102360 AKA's, w/ no overlap.
